Solar System: Solar Panels, Inverter, Battery Storage System, and EV Charger

Specifications: 5.4kWp system, 5kW inverter with 15kWh battery storage

This customer was looking to get a full solar and battery storage system with an EV charger. During a site visit, we discussed several options with the customer, checked all cable routes, took the required measurements, and assessed annual usage to calculate the correct installation. We then applied for DNO permissions on behalf of the customer. Once the required permissions from the DNO had been granted, we were ready to begin.

For this project, we had to install a new consumer unit outside as the current house consumer unit was situated in the middle of the property which meant that we were unable to run cables to that location. We sited the new weatherproof consumer unit under the existing meter box. For the EV charger we had to dig a trench around the house the driveway was located on the opposite side of the house. The cables for the solar panels were taken on the outside wall into the loft space and then out onto the roof, which involved crawling through some tight spaces!

Our team of three then spent the next day installing the panels on the roof. To do this, we measured the positions for the roof hooks and grinded out the roof tiles. Next, we put on the rails, ready for the panels. The panels went on quickly and the cables were tested and connected. We returned the next day to install the bird protection.

The inverter and battery took a day to install, including all the relevant testing. We sat down with the customer to explain the system and how to use the software app on the phone to monitor usage.
