House renovation

This project was a large house renovation that lasted for nearly a year, and we were involved in several stages of the renovation. From the building perspective, the project involved knocking down an old extension part of the house and then rebuilding a new, bigger extension, plus a double-story extension on the other side.

Our first task was to inspect the existing electrics to ensure compliance with the current electrical regulations. After that, we had to ensure that the parts of the house that would remain had working electrics - this was easier said than done! We had to separate cables, re-route them, and then re-test them to ensure that all the electrical parts in the parts of the house that were being removed were safe.

The next phase of our job was to wire the first extension, which was in the same location as the one that had just been knocked down. We liaised with the site manager, builders, plumbers, plasterers, and the heat pump team to ensure all the correct wiring was installed in the allotted time frame.

Our next visit was to second fix this extension (while the two-story one was being built). We were not in a position to make this area 'live' as the new consumer unit was to be positioned in the new, as yet unbuilt, extension. That being said, we were able to fit all new lights and sockets, fully tested, so it was all ready for when we could turn it on.

We returned to first fix the new two-story extension - which involved working with the kitchen company to place all the electrical outlets in the correct position. We were now able to route all our cables from the previous phase to the new consumer unit position.

On our final return, we could second fix the two-story extension, wire up all the kitchen appliances and fit the new consumer unit. We tested everything to make sure all wiring was safe and could be finally energised.

A long project, which involved a lot of people, was finally finished!
